DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT

The Android app is not released yet. This page describes how deletion works from the moment you install it and sign in. If you only ever joined the launch waiting list, jump to section 5 — that is a different list, and it goes on its own.
The short version. Delete it from inside the app in three taps, or email us and we do it for you. Everything attached to your account goes: your pact, your streak, your messages, your nickname. Your friend is told, because your pact was their commitment too. One thing survives on purpose — your Google Play subscription, which only Google can stop.
1. FROM INSIDE THE APP
This is the fastest route, and the one we recommend:
OPTIONS → ACCOUNT → DELETE ACCOUNT.
The app lists what you are about to lose, asks you to hold a button down while a countdown runs, and only then deletes. Nothing is deleted while that countdown is running — letting go cancels it.
2. FROM HERE, WITHOUT THE APP
If you have uninstalled the app, lost the phone, or simply prefer not to open it, write to lockafriend@protonmail.com from the email address of the Google account you signed in with, and say that you want your account deleted.
Sending it from that address is what proves the account is yours. If you cannot, tell us your nickname and we will find another way to check before deleting anything — deleting the wrong person's pact is not a mistake we can undo.
We act within 30 days, and in practice much faster. You get one email confirming it is done, and that email is the last one you will ever receive from us.
3. WHAT IS DELETED
All of it, in both routes. There is no archive kept afterwards and no separate retention clock per row:

4. WHAT DOES NOT GO, AND WHY
Your subscription. Deleting your account does not cancel it — only Google can, because only Google ever had your payment details. Cancel it in Google Play before or after deleting, but do cancel it: an account that no longer exists cannot stop a renewal on your behalf.
Records Google Play keeps for tax purposes on our behalf. We do not control those and cannot delete them; they are a legal obligation on the payment, not on you.
Website measurement. Visits to this site are counted without being attached to any account — there is nothing there to link back to you, and those rows drop by themselves after 24 months.
What your friend keeps. Their own account, their own stats, and the fact that the pact ended. They are told when you delete, exactly as they would be told if you ended the pact deliberately — because for them, it is the same event.
5. THE LAUNCH WAITING LIST
If you left your email address on the home page and never installed anything, there is no account to delete — just one row with your address, which of our sites collected it, and the date. Reply to any message from us, or write to lockafriend@protonmail.com, and the row is deleted. We do not even keep a record that you unsubscribed.
6. UNINSTALLING IS NOT DELETING
You can always uninstall lockafriend — it will never block, delay or hide its own removal. But uninstalling leaves your account, your nickname and your public card exactly where they were. If you want them gone, use one of the two routes above.
